Christy’s Story
Christy McCall was a Little Flower graduate of the Class of 2001. Throughout her four years Christy spent most of her time in Mrs. Diehl arts’ classroom. This was a place where she could unleash her artistic ability but more importantly be her true authentic self. She experimented in many different mediums that showcased her individuality whether it be drawings of her lunch in colored pastels or the clay bust of her favorite keyboard player of one of her favorite bands (The Get Up Kids).
Christy continued her artistic endeavors way past her high school years. She created many paintings for friends and family. She would remember a song that you mentioned you loved and the next time she saw you she would have a hand painting of the lyrics on canvas for you. In fact, most of the art that hung up on the walls of her apartment were pieces she made. Every holiday had hand crafted banners and mini Christmas hats would adorn her most precious collection of Ghostbuster figures.
Christy was first diagnosed with leukemia back in 2002 but beat it the following year. Unfortunately, the cancer returned in 2016 and after a long and courageous battle she passed on June 18, 2017.
This scholarship was created by family and friends in memory of Christy and to continue the message of how important the arts are both in the classroom and out. Our wish is for the individual who receives this award to continue the spirit of creativity and individuality that Christy was known for throughout her life.
